The Ghost Trees Tanker is a performance work of art. It is quick to turn and a terrific nose rider.
Bottom Deck
The bottom deck is made of reclaimed redwood siding, redwood from John Steinbeck's first house in Pacific Grove, Alaskan yellow cedar from the Western Flyer boat rebuild project, redwood floorboards from the late 1800s from the Schwan Mansion in Santa Cruz, oak from wine casks from Martini & Prati by way of USA Millwork, Bay laurel from the 1800s from the cooperage building on the UC Santa Cruz campus, and a stringer of salvaged Doug fir and Philippine mahogany with Crayola pencil inlays. The Entropy Resins bio-epoxy finish is polished to show three trees (ghost trees) and a moon/sun to match the Ventana logo. The logo on the bottom deck includes blue pigment from Black Diamond Pigments with glow-in-the-dark powered.
The fin has a halo of Black Diamond Pigments and includes an inlay of hammered copper reclaimed from Hunter Designs. The wood is Doug fir from the hull of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew chartered this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood.
Top Deck
The top deck is made of reclaimed redwood siding and Alaskan yellow cedar from the Western Flyer boat rebuild project with a stringer of Honduras mahogany, spruce, and Indian rosewood from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts. There are three dots of abalone in the cork at the nose. The Entropy Resins bio-epoxy finish is polished to show three trees (ghost trees) and a moon/sun to match the Ventana logo. The logo on the top deck includes Aztec Gold pigment from Black Diamond Pigments.
Other Details
The tail block is made of flame maple offcuts from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts, oxidized white oak from the original ribs of the Western Flyer boat, 8000+ year old bog oak from the UK by way of RePercussion Drums, and abalone inlay.
The leash and vent cups are made from Entropy Resins drippings left over from the glassing of Ashley Lloyd Surfboards by Tyler Hopkins of Locus Surfboards.
The rails are made of cork, and it was glassed with Entropy Resins bio-epoxy with 4oz. Aerialite fiberglass cloth on the bottom and 6oz. cloth on the top from .
