This little rising sun Grom board is amazing! The bottom deck features a sun burst made of reclaimed redwood fence beams, yellow cedar, reclaimed sapele as the “water," and sycamore fins and tail block. The sun itself came from a chunk of driftwood found in Big Sur, a “mystery” burl. The nose and tail also have abalone inlays.
The top deck is totally different from the bottom and very unique. The curly redwood was reclaimed many years ago by a gentleman in Santa Cruz, California. It was stored for a few decades before we got our hands on it.
The rails are made of oak cork. The stringers are of black walnut pulled from a dumpster and purple heart walnut reclaimed from the side of a friends’ house. We used poplar dowels for the inlays. The glow of the wood grain is absolutely beautiful, almost surreal looking.
Like all Ventana boards, this is hollow, lightweight and will ride as great as it looks. If you choose to display it, given the uniqueness of each side, it's like two art pieces in one.
Made in Santa Cruz, California by master craftsman Martijn Stiphout.
