This gorgeous, sunburst longboard was a special commission for Lucky Brand. It is displayed in their flagship store at The Point near Manhattan Beach, CA. A selection of Ventana apparel and supplies along with the Tanker Luthier Longboard are available at the store, as well. The fin has a special touch. It is inlaid with crushed turquoise in the shape of Lucky Brand's clover logo.
Music is a core part of Lucky Brand's focus, so it was only natural that we use sustainably grown, exotic wood offcuts from the luthiers at our upcycle partner, Santa Cruz Guitar Company. This legendary company has been making exceptional guitars for the likes of Johnny Cash, Ben Harper, Elvis Costello, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffet and hundreds of others since 1976.
The Lucky Luthier Longboard is a performance work of art. The sun rays rising over the water on the bottom deck are of redwood and Douglas fir for reclaimed from an old house in Capitola, CA. The rippled "water" is sapele wood offcut from a cabinet shop in Santa Cruz. The "sun" is cocobolo wood from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts.
The stunning redwood top deck came from the floorboards of the historic Schwann Victorian mansion in Santa Cruz, California. The house was built of locally milled, old growth wood in the 1890's, and these clear grain, heart redwood floor boards served the residents all the way through the early 2000's when the house was demolished. The wood is at least 1000 years old. The small strips of wood/"ladder frames" are ash from a cabinet shop. And the thick, center stringer is made of Indian rosewood, cocobolo, flame koa, curly sapele and sycamore from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts. There is also a piece of redwood reclaimed from a backyard.
The tail is made of flame maple that was offcut from the production of a guitar neck. It is inlayed on both sides with a strip of abalone shell from Northern California.
The rails are made of oak cork, and it was glassed with Entropy Super Sap 100 Bio Resin and 4oz. fiberglass cloth (two layers on top and one on bottom). As with all Ventana boards, the interior is glassed and sealed, as well.
Made in Santa Cruz, California by master craftsman Martijn Stiphout.
